The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) is honored to now be among the more than 80 Minnesota companies, government agencies and higher education institutions in the Yellow Ribbon family. DEED’s Yellow Ribbon Designation was made official today at the 16th Annual Veterans Career Fair, which was sponsored by DEED and the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs.
DEED is proud to join a growing group of Minnesota employers strongly committed to honoring and supporting their employees who have served or are currently serving in the U.S. military. DEED does this as an employer through policies that the agency has implemented and is committed to implementing aimed at the recruitment, hiring and retention of veterans, service members and their spouses. Some specific steps DEED is already taking in this area include:
- Senior leaders support and assist with the development of military-friendly policies and procedures for military-connected employees, including policies related to employees on leave for active duty military service.
- Division directors partner with CareerForce Veterans Employment leaders to review applications from job seekers who are veterans, current service members, spouses, or Gold Star Family members to help DEED directors understand the relevance of job seekers' military experience and training for potential agency employment.
- CareerForce Veterans Employment Services partners with the Minnesota National Guard on demobilization and reintegration events and resources for military members returning from active duty.
DEED also honors and supports current and former military members as a partner in CareerForce. CareerForce Veterans Employment Services provides current and former military service members throughout the state with career exploration, job search, employment networking and other services and helps connect them with Minnesota employers who value their military service.
