Kerri, who leveraged CareerForce to find the right employment

Kerri knew the career path she wanted to follow. The disabled veteran just needed some help landing her dream position. That’s where CareerForce came in.

Kerri served with the Minnesota National Guard in Iraq, where she sustained a service-related injury. After ending her military career with the National Guard, she completed her education to become a Medical Support Assistant. She applied for numerous positions at the VA, but wasn’t getting anywhere. So she turned to CareerForce for help.

Kerri worked with Dave Wold, a Disabled Veterans Outreach Program Specialist at the CareerForce location in Brooklyn Park. Dave helped her revise her resume to highlight her skills and experience. Dave also encouraged her to attend the Veterans Affairs (VA) Meet and Greet event at the CareerForce location in North Minneapolis, organized by Local Veterans Employment Representative Mark Mann.

There, Kerri learned exactly what VA recruiters were looking for in Medical Support Assistant applicants. She submitted her revised resume—and soon had an offer.

“I was able to get a job immediately,” said Kerri. She added about Dave and Mark that she is “very appreciative of what you guys do.”

We’re very appreciative of Kerri’s service to her country. And we’re happy to report she’s been working as a Medical Support Assistant at the VA since November 2018.
