Inspired by nurses who cared for her son, former forensic scientist turned critical care nurse volunteered for duty on the pandemic front lines 

When Eileen studied microbiology and genetic engineering in college, she didn’t have a career in nursing in mind. She was inspired to become a nurse thanks to the nursing care she saw her son receive. Eileen asked to be transferred to M Health Fairview’s COVID-19 care unit last year during the early days of the pandemic. 

When asked about what she finds more rewarding about being a critical care nurse, Eileen focuses on her patients.  

“I love being able to feel that I have made a positive difference in my patient's journey at the hospital.  That difference may be supporting that person in a return to health or supporting and comforting someone in their journey towards death. I am passionate about seeing each patient as an individual, with their own unique needs, and striving to treat each patient and their family with the utmost respect that they deserve.”
