Last year, Shane was looking for his next employer at the annual Veterans Career Fair. At this year’s Veterans Career Fair, he’s representing the employer who hired him after meeting him at last year’s fair. Here’s Shane’s story in his own words about finding a great employment fit at AVA, a prefabricated building manufacturer based in Albertville, Minnesota, which is a premier exhibitor at the 2023 Veterans Career Fair:

"My name is Shane and I served in the Marine Corps Infantry with two deployments to Iraq, and later on became a Wisconsin Army National Guard Recruiter for three years. Last year I attended the Veterans Career Fair in Brooklyn Center after hearing about the opportunities and employers present. After spending a good portion of my day gathering information I came across a company called AVA. What really caught my interest was the growth and opportunity, not to mention AVA’s Plant Manager Dave Rietveld, who was an Army Ranger, and the AVA HR Manager, who was a military recruiter, made me feel like I was welcomed with open arms. They answered every question I had asked.

“After being hired on as a Crew Member at AVA…I wanted to develop some skills in the trades and find my calling. After a few months of working here at AVA the company asked me I wanted an opportunity to become the recruiter for the company. With such a gracious offer and all the honesty and opportunity that has been given to me, there was no way I was going to let this door of opportunity pass me by.

“Not but a year later, at the exact same career fair, I find myself now the Recruiter for AVA looking to find Veterans like my past self and help and guide them to a fulfilling and rewarding career path. Truly an honor to help our brothers and sisters who served. Thank you for all the opportunities CareerForce gives our company and Veterans. God Bless America.”
