Army National Guard Veteran Tim was laid off from his job as a business development specialist at a sign and print shop during the pandemic. He was initially working with a DEED Veteran Employment Specialist in Duluth. When that staff member took another position, Tim was transferred to Rebecca Kaas, Veteran Employment Representative at CareerForce Marshall.

“Rebecca immediately reached out to me. After our first phone conversation, I could instantly tell she was very passionate about helping veterans and extremely knowledgeable. When you are struggling in your job search and someone like Rebecca comes along that is enthusiastic and is willing to help you, it just keeps you pumped up, focused and on track.”

Since Tim’s background was so varied, he had difficulty narrowing his career options into a specific category. Rebecca helped him hone on what interested him most and what utilized his unique skillset.

“Rebecca asked me a number of different questions to help me focus my job search. I finally landed on searching for jobs that included helping veterans in some way.”

Tim recently started what he describes as an “ideal fit” as a County Veterans Service Officer for Meeker County, Minnesota.

“Rebecca’s help throughout the whole process of defining my job search, updating my resume, and helping me prepare for interviews was instrumental in getting the job that I really wanted. My key advice to veteran job seekers is to get connected with veteran resources through the State of Minnesota and Veterans networking organization such as the Eagle Group of Minnesota Veterans.”
