McKayla came to the CareerForce in Willmar seeking assistance preparing for and finding employment quickly after a long break from the workforce. Thanks to McKayla’s faith and determination, along with assistance from CareerForce staff member Georgette Skindelien, McKayla has this success story to share, in her own words:

“My story started as a stay-at-home mom with three kids. I came to CareerForce in October of 2023. I came in after my relationship fell apart and I was left single with three kids, an ailing grandmother who's physically disabled and no degree. I was at my absolute lowest with a bad back, no help and no daycare. I hadn't worked in over 10 years at a steady job and had only done miscellaneous jobs throughout that time. But with no other options and my kids watching, it was time to go back to work. I was scared. I had no idea that God was moving mountains for me. I was introduced to Georgette my work force coach. SHE WAS AMAZING! She gave me confidence to apply for jobs by helping me find job listings, paying close attention to what I liked, what I was able to do and told me about different programs I could apply for so I could get help paying for child care, bills and clothing for interviews and work. She was supportive, kind and understanding throughout the process and because of her I had enough encouragement and confidence to apply for my dream job as a Special Ed Paraprofessional. I GOT THE JOB!!!! She has been an absolute life raft for me through this journey sending emails just to check in because of genuine empathy and understanding of my circumstances. It was unreal the amount of respect and kindness she showed me. And because of her and God my life is finally getting better and my kids have a reason to be proud of me again."
