Dozens of graduating high school seniors turned out to meet with employers and training providers at Leading CareerForce Partner Ramsey County’s first Launch Pad event for soon-to-be grads, held at the Eastside YMCA in Saint Paul on May 9.

Ramsey County hosts many hiring events aimed at young job seekers. In addition to Launch Pad, the county held a Youth Job and Resource Fair at Maplewood Mall in April that provided over 100 young folks with connections to their jobs. For young people graduating and looking for a next step, Ramsey County’s Learn & Earn initiative could be a great fit! With a dozen programs providing paid occupational training to 18-30 year olds, Learn & Earn will help them growth and connect into a high-wage career pathway.

Leading CareerForce Partner Washington County hosted a hugely successful Teen Job Fair at the R.H. Stafford Library in Woodbury on April 29. More than 100 high school aged job seekers turned out, many with copies of their resume ready to hand to employers. Washington County also holds several youth employment focused events every year.

According to the latest numbers from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development, Minnesota teens currently have the lowest unemployment rate and highest labor force participation rate since these records started being kept in 2002.

Overall unemployment in Minnesota is 2.7% – where it’s been for six months. Minnesota’s labor market is very tight – there are currently two job openings for each person seeking a job. This means it's a job seekers market – a great time to look for employment!
