Construct Tomorrow in Duluth Builds Excitement for Construction Careers

More than 1,400 students from Northeast Minnesota engaged in hands-on exploration of careers in the construction and building trades industries at the Duluth Entertainment and Convention Center. More than a dozen stations featured activities like pipe-cutting and construction framing. Representatives from local union apprenticeship programs were on hand to answer questions.

The construction industry has many in-demand careers with strong self-sustaining wages. Apprentices can start at $15 an hour, plus paid benefits and free technical training. Apprenticeships provide training with minimal education costs and within 3-5 years (depending on the trade), the person will graduate or journey out. Some construction occupations can pay $30-40 an hour, or more.
