Three steps for long-term care employers to take to help recruit employees

If you are recruiting employees for long-term care (or really any health care position!) right now, you don’t have time to wade through a treatise on outreach practices. You are one busy individual and you need some tips you can scan at a glance – then implement what’s right for you. 

Here are three tips – with some ideas for implementation below them  – that have proven helpful for Monarch Healthcare Management. Monarch operates short-term rehabilitation as well as long-term care facilities, so we are focused on hiring employees in high-demand in those settings. We can hire people as young as 15 to work in dietary and some other roles – so that is key to point out. 

Engage with your community 

  • Have a presence at town festivals, county fairs and Small Business Saturday and other community events 
  • Reach out to your local chambers! 
  • Whoever you are communicating with for whatever reason – make sure you are highlighting your open positions 
    • Share a link to your company’s career page with a high profile link in your signature that says click here for career opportunities 
    • Put that link in your enewsletters 
    • Share a line about now hiring in any paper letters  
    • Post a now hiring flyer on any bulletin boards at your location or in the community that you can access, think about adding a QR code and have the code go directly to your job application you are posting for 
    • You might just reach your next employee by catching their eye when you least expect it– or have a contact of your forward the message to just the right person. 
  • Explore advertising opportunities in your local newspaper (for older audiences) or through social media (but note that employment ads can be tough on social!)

Simplify and speed up the application process 

  • Shorten Job posting – bullet point key items 
  • Provide a paper application option as well as a simple PDF versions of application – your online application could be a barrier for people who lack digital access or skills 
  • Aim for response to applicant within 24 hours – even on weekends!
