People with Construction trades skills – from carpentry to plumbing and more – are in demand in Minnesota.

From January to February 2023 alone, Construction gained 2,200 jobs, that’s up 1.7%, according to the most recent employment numbers released by the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development.

Here are some of the Construction jobs in demand in Minnesota:

  1. Carpenters: Carpenters are in demand in Minnesota due to new housing construction and other projects. Carpenters measure, cut and install building materials like wood, metal and drywall.
  2. Electricians: Due to continued growth in new construction and renovation of existing structures, along with increasing retirements of older workers, skilled electricians are in demand in Minnesota. Electricians install, upgrade and maintain electrical systems, including wiring, lighting, and power outlets, in residential, commercial, and industrial settings.
  3. Plumbers: Plumbers are also in demand due to new construction and renovation of existing structures and ongoing retirements of older workers. Plumbers install and repair water supply and drainage systems, as well as heating and cooling equipment, mechanical control systems and fire suppression sprinkler systems.
  4. Welders: Welders are in demand to construct and repair metal structures, as well as work in Minnesota’s large manufacturing industry sector. Welders use heat and pressure to fuse metal parts together, creating durable structures and equipment that can withstand heavy loads and extreme weather conditions.
