We reached out to Minnesota employers and asked them why they specifically seek out veterans when they are hiring. Here’s what they said, in their own words:
"We have had veterans from all branches of service on the Mason Brothers Team. (I served in the USN from 89-09.) I always enjoy meeting veterans and hearing their story. Often they have the knowledge, skills and ability we are looking to add to our team. Veterans have the efficiency to work alone and the respect for procedures to add to the team effort. They have received the leadership training and possess the integrity to get the job done." Roland Gilbert II, Human Resource Manager, Mason Brothers Company, Wadena, MN
"Oshkosh Corporation, the parent company of McNeilus Companies, has recently been recognized as a Military Friendly Employer by VIQTORY, a veteran-owned business that supports veterans with employment assistance, entrepreneurial mentoring and education opportunities, for the third consecutive year. We are proud to have a long history of hiring veterans and supporting their growth. Veterans understand what it takes to get the mission complete without taking shortcuts, and they do it with integrity." Amanda Mickelson, Vice President Human Resources, McNeilus Companies, Dodge Center, MN
"At Hy-Vee, we value the leadership, loyalty, honor and commitment to service inspired through participation in the military. Those qualities closely align with our company’s core values of being helpful, friendly, honest, dedicated and respectful. Together, these qualities offer a career environment where veterans can succeed." Jon Cox, Military Recruiting Specialist, Hy-Vee, West Des Moines, IA (many Minnesota veterans work at Hy-Vee stores located in Minnesota)
