When to expect funding opportunities for workforce development programs

DEED manages and implements grant programs to improve outcomes for people of color, women, veterans, youth and people with disabilities. Availability of grant funding can vary from year to year, but generally this is what the timeline for grant opportunities looks like for workforce development programs supported with funding from state appropriations

Legislative Session (January-May)

Minnesota’s state legislative session begins in January or February and usually continues until the end of May. During the legislative session, grant programs are created or continued from previous legislative sessions. The amount of funding available for these programs is determined during the session by the legislatureand Governor.

Request for Proposals (July-December)

The Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) publishes Request for Proposals (RFPs). RFPs are typically released near the end of the summer, but may be published throughout the year. Open RFPs can be found here.

Awards (January-March)

Grant proposals are scored by grant review panels that are half community members and half State of Minnesota employees. The highest scoring grant proposals are awarded funding. Organizations can expect a letter stating whether their grant proposal was awarded funding. You can sign up for email updates for DEED grant opportunities.
